About A.L. Davis
"I write children's stories filled with nature, wonder, emotional courage, and the quiet wisdom children discover when they listen closely to the world around them."
A.L. Davis creates story worlds rooted in family, land, memory, and tenderness — books that give children permission to feel deeply and wonder freely.
Midwest Roots
A.L. Davis grew up surrounded by family stories — the kind told at kitchen tables, on long drives, and in the quiet moments before sleep. Stories about the land, about weather, about people who lived close to the earth and paid attention to what it taught them. Those stories shaped everything that came after.
Now in Juneau
Today, A.L. lives in Juneau, Alaska — a place where the land is impossible to ignore. Mountains, glaciers, ravens, eagles, rain, and the ever-changing light of the northern sky. Living here deepened her belief that nature is not just a backdrop for stories — it is a teacher, a mirror, and a home.
Why Lily Red Owl
Lily was born from a desire to give children a character who feels deeply — and who discovers that her sensitivity is not a weakness, but a gift. In a world that often tells children to be louder, faster, and bolder, Lily offers a different path: the path of listening, noticing, and trusting the quiet voice within.
Why Winter Gnomes
The Winter Gnomes grew from the same soil — a love of seasonal rhythms, cozy rituals, and the belief that even the coldest season holds warmth if you know where to look. They are the companion series to Lily: where Lily journeys inward through dreams, the Gnomes tend the outer world with care, kindness, and wonder.
The Heart of It
At the center of all this work is a simple belief: children deserve stories that respect their intelligence, honor their emotions, and connect them to the living world. Not stories that distract — but stories that ground, that comfort, and that stay with a child long after the book is closed.
